DE&I shouldn’t be side of desk

A lot of D&I work is done side of desk. Colleagues often volunteer to work on D&I alongside their full time job, which can be a challenging.

This undermines the importance of the work that is being done. If organisations really want to see a positive change and make equity, inclusion and diversity the norm, they need to give colleagues the time needed to do the work.

Many individuals will have supportive leadership, who give them time to focus on their D&I work, without that support it would be very difficult to be proactive and to find time in their busy schedules to focus on D&I.

It’s also important for D&I leads to directly ask for the time and support they need. Don't struggle in silence, let your leaders know about the work you are doing and how they can be an ally and help to bring change.

Taking the initiative to work on D&I alongside your main role, should be commended, but it should also be supported and rewarded.
